This period Gower cottage is in the quiet village of Llanmadoc on the north-west corner of the Gower Peninsula. Built in the 1850s, until some 50 years ago it was a public house called the Farmers Arms.
We have owned the Farmers Arms for many years, and we let it out as a holiday cottage throughout the year. Many hundreds of families and couples have enjoyed great holidays here as you can see by what they write in our visitors’ book, and the fact that many return time and again.
The cottage has two separate parts: the Main House (the left side) has three bedrooms and sleeps 5. the Annexe (the right side) has two bedrooms and sleeps 4.
The Main House and the Annexe are available separately or together – they are connected by a door – and together sleep 9. They are ideal for a quiet, relaxing holiday. Each part has its own patio and there is a large garden at the rear, with plenty of room for kids to play in. The property backs on to open farmland.
Over the years we’ve restored and modernised the property. It has gas central heating and hot water and double glazing, and is fully furnished and equipped with everything you could need. There’s also WiFi internet access. The Main House has three bedrooms and sleeps 5, and The Annexe has two bedrooms and sleeps 4. For a larger party, you can rent both together to sleep up to 9 people.
There are some internal steps and several low beams. It may not be suitable for the elderly or those with mobility issues.
The surfaced forecourt area at the front provides ample off-road parking for a number of cars. At the rear there is a large garden with sitting areas for both the Main House and Annexe. The garden is about an acre, and is mainly lawn. Several years ago we converted part of the grass area into a wild flower garden which attracts an abundance of wildlife, including numerous species of bees and butterflies.
We live in a nearby village and manage the property ourselves. We do not use agents. In the unlikely event of any problems we are a 5 minute drive away.
A traditional, three bedroom cottage. Downstairs there is a lounge with open fire, dining room and kitchen.
The cottage has gas central heating and water heating, double glazing, and is fully furnished, with a full range of kitchen equipment and utensils.
The sitting room is a very cosy room, furnished with two sofas, a TV and DVD player and a wood-burner. The dining room is equipped with a dining table and six chairs.
Entrance to the kitchen is off the dining room. The kitchen is fully equipped with storage units, granite work surfaces, electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave oven, dishwasher and washing machine.
Upstairs, there are 3 bedrooms, all with storage space – a double bedroom with wash hand basin, with a small box room leading from it, which contains a cot; a twin room and a single room.
The twin and double rooms have stripped oak floors. The single room has great views to the rear over the estuary and coast towards Pembrey.
The bathroom has a shower/bath, toilet and wash basin.
A two bedroom self contained annexe which sleeps 4. It is available separately or with the main house, sleeping 9 together.

Llanmadoc is a small, friendly village on the north west coast of the Gower Peninsula in south west Wales. It’s approximately 15 miles to the west of Swansea and a 3.5 hour drive from London.
As the Gower is a rural area with limited public transport, we recommend that guests travel by car.
The village has an excellent public house and restaurant, with a children’s play area and beer garden. When the village shop closed a few years ago, the community formed a co-operative which now runs the shop and post office. It is open daily, and sells essentials and local produce.
The unspoilt Broughton and Whiteford beaches are a 5 minute drive away and the Whiteford Burrows National Trust conservation area is a 5 minute walk. There are many public footpaths within easy walking distance of the Cottage, offering spectacular views.
As well as great walks, The Farmers Arms is ideally positioned for local activities such as windsurfing, horse riding, golf, fishing, cycling and abundant bird and wildlife.
The Gower Peninsula was designated as Britain’s first area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1950. The Gower Peninsula is to the west of the City of Swansea and is approximately 20 miles long and 6 miles across. Gower has something for everyone – beautiful beaches, coastal walks, surfing, mountain biking and historic sites.
